Hannaford Store Tours – a great teaching tool
Our complimentary store tours are designed especially for children from preschool through 5th grade. An engaging and fun way for children to become more familiar with how their local Hannaford Supermarket works, the tours teach kids about making nutritious food choices using Guiding Stars.
Knowledgeable tour guides will lead your class in an exploration of the store, highlighting interesting food facts, like “Did you know it takes five pounds of grapes to make one pound of raisins?” and including kids’ activities that help them learn about the value of eating nutritious food.
Activities may include:
- Seafood – Meet Larry the lobster
- Deli – Order meats like a pro
- Produce – Pick out a fruit or vegetable that matches your shirt and find out how many stars it gets
- Grocery – find your favorite cereal and see whose cereal has the most stars
Students will enjoy tasty samples during the tour, and each student will be given a goodie bag as a thank-you for being our guest.
“Practicing good nutrition is an essential life-long skill to instill in children at a young age. When children make healthy food choices, they are better able to process information and actively participate in their learning. The Guiding Stars program demystifies the process of making nutritious choices. During store tours, children discover ways to make healthy food choices in an engaging and interesting way. The stars are easy for children to find, thereby assisting them in developing solid nutritional habits that will benefit them for years to come.”
