In connection with the voluntary recall of several brands of instant nonfat dry milk by Wisconsin-based Sturm Foods, Hannaford Supermarkets is advising customers to check the UPC or lot codes on one-quart envelopes (10 packs) of Hannaford brand products they may have at home.
Sturm Foods announced the recall July 9 in response to concerns about Salmonella contamination raised by one of its suppliers, Plainview Milk Products Cooperative.
In an abundance of caution, Hannaford is encouraging customers to return for refund or replacement one-quart envelopes of Hannaford instant nonfat dry milk with the UPC code 41268-11345 or the lot codes FEB0911S or JAN2111S. Hannaford has removed these items from its shelves.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, it can lead to more severe illnesses.
