About Hannaford Supermarkets

A lot has changed since 1883—the year Arthur Hannaford started what would become the present-day Hannaford Supermarkets on the Portland, Maine, waterfront.

That was also the year the Brooklyn Bridge opened to traffic, the Philadelphia Phillies played their first baseball game, and Parker Bros. produced its first game— all while folks were humming one of the most popular songs of the day, “The Farmer in the Dell.”

Times change, but people still want high-quality produce, meat and deli products; good prices and great value; and first-class customer service.

Take a look around this site and you’ll learn all about what makes us unique, from our founding philosophy to our innovations. Thanks for visiting.
