Directions

Store in a cool dry place. Helpful hints for successful bird feeding: Year-round food: Feed the birds all year round. As in winter, springtime can be just as difficult for wild birds to find an adequate supply of seeds. Birds are attracted by a reliable source of food, so keep your feeders full and they'll return faithfully. Timing: Feed early in the morning, when birds are most active and in search of high energy food. Set up feeders in September or October to attract birds as they first establish their winter feeding territories. Water: Provide a constant source of water near your feeding area and the birds will flock to it. Keep it ice-free. Shelter: Place feeders near trees and shrubs because they provide a safe haven. A sunny, windless, southeastern exposure is the preferred feeding location. Variety of feeders: The style of feeder will affect which types of birds are attracted to it. Cardinals prefer platform feeders, finches prefer tube feeders. Food makes the difference: Each bird species has its food preference, so providing it will attract them. Keep it clean: Clean seed feeders whenever they become wet and seed sticks to their corners. Regular cleaning of your feeders and watering areas benefit the long-term health of the birds.
