1. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add sausage and cook until browned all over, about 5 minutes.
2. Add broth, tomatoes, and 2 cups beans to saucepan and bring to a simmer. Meanwhile, use a fork or potato masher to mash remaining 1/2 cup beans until smooth. Whisk in mashed beans, reduce heat to medium, and simmer another 5 minutes. Stir in Swiss chard and continue to cook until chard is wilted, about 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve.
