David Ortiz talks food, shares salsa with surprised shoppers
MARLBOROUGH, Massachusetts – Red Sox slugger and amateur foodie David Ortiz surprised shoppers at the Marlborough Hannaford Supermarket & Pharmacy today to share salsa -- the first product launched in his Big Papi’s Kitchen line.
The fresh salsa by Big Papi’s Kitchen was developed in partnership with Sisters Salsa in Blue Hill, Maine and offers three varieties: Original, Twice the Spice, and Mango – a taste blend that Ortiz was particularly interested in exploring and helped develop. That variety debuted at Hannaford.
“I sampled the Sisters Salsa brand during a visit to the local Hannaford and immediately thought about the wonderful food I grew up with in the Dominican Republic,” Ortiz said. “This salsa is so full of flavor and fresh tasting. I wanted to share it with everyone.”
On Tuesday, Ortiz did just that. He surprised shoppers at the Marlborough Hannaford, chatted with them and offered samples of the fresh salsa. Customers enjoyed spending time with the Red Sox designated hitter and learning about Big Papi’s Kitchen.
Ortiz developed an appreciation for authentic, flavorful and fresh food during his childhood; today, he enjoys visiting good restaurants and trying different foods.
