Hannaford Charitable Foundation Donates $50,000 to Fund Construction of New Vaughan Food Pantry
“Vaughan to the Future” capital campaign more than half way to goal

North Conway, NH—The Hannaford Charitable Foundation has donated $50,000 toward the construction of the new Vaughan Food Pantry as part of Vaughan Community Services’ capital campaign, “Vaughan to the Future.” The Hannaford Charitable Foundation contribution has boosted the capital campaign to over $700,000 — more than half way to its goal of $1.3 million.

“Hannaford is committed to fighting hunger and ensuring that everyone in our community has access to healthy food,” said Jim Hamilton, Vice President of Divisional Operations at Hannaford. “We are proud to help Vaughan Community Services get one step closer to opening a food pantry for the families in the Mt. Washington Valley.”

“Vaughan to the Future” capital campaign will fund the renovations and refurbishing of the Vaughan Learning Center and the construction of a new food pantry and clothing depot building. The Hannaford Charitable Foundation gift will be used exclusively to assist in the construction of the new food pantry.

In 2018, the company donated more than 25 million pounds of nutritious food to hunger relief across New Hampshire and four other Northeast states in which it operates stores, including more than 4 million pounds in New Hampshire.

“Hannaford is now and always has been a true partner of the Vaughan Food Pantry,” said Dan Jones, chair of the Vaughan capital campaign. “They regularly provide us with a variety of fresh foods that are necessary for a healthy diet yet can be difficult to afford for our clients. Their $50,000 gift is truly remarkable and we are very grateful to store manager Jeffrey Cox for his continuing assistance and support.”

The Hannaford Charitable Foundation mission is to invest in creating and sustaining healthy communities through providing support to non-profit programs that focus on the improvement of the root causes impacting the quality of life for our neighbors, customers and associates.  Founded in 1994, the Foundation has given over $14 million to organizations in the New England region.
Vaughan Community Services provides a variety of programs and services to the communities in the Mt. Washington Valley including operating the town of Conway Food Pantry, emergency assistance, Suicide Survivors Group, and is the fiscal agent for area groups providing a variety of non-profit services.

The “Vaughan to the Future” Capital Campaign began the summer of 2018 with an anonymous gift of $125,000. The $1.3 million goal will allow for 100% funding of both the renovations of the childcare center and the new construction of the pantry building. The campaign hopes to wrap up in late spring of 2019 with an overall completion date for the project of late winter 2019.
