LATHAM, NY – Hannaford Supermarkets today announced a $150,000 donation to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to support the hunger relief agency’s capital improvement project at its headquarters in Latham, NY, including a new distribution dock and display cooler.

Officials from Hannaford and the Food Bank gathered to formally unveil the new 2,500-square foot Hannaford distribution dock, which offers twice the space previously available and more than doubles the quantity of product available to food pantries. The space also features a new large display cooler, which increases the amount of fresh food available to agencies.

The funding from Hannaford also supported upgrades to the Food Bank’s main conference room, including enhanced technology and multimedia capabilities which offer improved presentation and educational programming opportunities for agency staff, volunteers and the community.

Both the new distribution dock and conference room will be named in honor of Hannaford Supermarkets.

The donation to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York continues Hannaford’s commitment to supporting child nutrition through the Chef’s Table program, a partnership with prominent chefs who share Hannaford’s passion for fresh food and strong local communities. As a result of the Chef’s Table program, Hannaford donated more than $800,000 to child nutrition initiatives in 2018, including today’s contribution to the Food Bank.

“Improving access to fresh and healthy food for all individuals is critically important to Hannaford. This donation will help the Food Bank better serve those in need by increasing not only the amount of available space, but also the amount of quality, fresh product available to its partner agencies,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Director of Operations Andy Willette. “We applaud the Food Bank for its vision in completing this capital improvement project and its continued dedication to feeding the hungry in our community.”

“Hannaford Supermarkets has once again stepped up in a big way to support a major initiative of the Regional Food Bank with their generous contribution to our capital campaign. The new distribution dock they funded is helping us improve the services we provide our member agencies and operate more efficiently at the same time. Our upgraded conference room gets used every day and provides multimedia opportunities we never had in the past,” said Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York Executive Director Mark Quandt. “We are so grateful to Hannaford for everything they do to assist the Food Bank in its mission to nutritiously feed our hungry neighbors.”

The Chef’s Table Capital Region participating chef, Ric Orlando of New World Bistro Bar in Albany, NY, joined Hannaford at today’s event to express his support for the Food Bank.

“There is deep commitment in the chef community to fighting hunger and I am honored to partner with Hannaford to further these efforts," said Orlando. “I'm glad to be part of generating more support for local heroes who do life-changing work for children and families.”
