Hudson store to close in mid-August

Scarborough, Maine – Hannaford Supermarkets today announced that it will close its Hudson, Mass. location on Aug. 13.

With the expiration of this location's lease approaching, Hannaford determined that the company should focus on its nearby stores rather than renew the multi-year lease, said Eric Blom, Hannaford spokesman.  Hannaford operates its larger Marlborough store, which includes a pharmacy, about five miles from the Hudson store location.

"We are announcing this difficult decision now, in order to give our associates as much time as possible to find employment opportunities at Hannaford," Blom said.

Hudson has 94 associates, with the majority of them being part-time. The store team received information on the planned closing during meetings on Thursday.  Work immediately began to find new work opportunities for them beginning late in the summer.

“We will continue to serve customers in Hudson into August,” Blom said. “During that time, we will be actively developing opportunities for our associates to transition to other Hannaford stores.”

Any employee who does not accept a new position with Hannaford in the next three months will receive severance and support services to find alternate employment, Blom said.
