Colonie, NY – A meat-cutter from the Colonie Hannaford Supermarket & Pharmacy has been recognized as providing the most-outstanding customer service in 2014 from among the company's 20,000 hourly retail associates in five Northeast states.

 

Hannaford Supermarkets recently named Benny Hill as recipient of its 2014 George Naimey Award for Outstanding Customer Service during the company's annual communication and awards meeting in Scarborough, Maine.

 

Hill recently celebrated his 25th anniversary with Hannaford and is the "quintessential advocate for customer service and a true role model for his fellow associates," Mike Forbes, Colonie Store Manager, wrote in a nomination letter.

 

Hill moved from Virginia to upstate New York with his family in 1970 and soon after became an apprentice meat cutter for the Albany Public Markets. Over the next 18 years, he mastered the trade and, in 1989, applied for a job at the newly built Colonie store. He has remained there ever since.

"As his coworkers will attest, not a day goes by where someone doesn't ask, 'Is Benny here today?'" said Jim Hamilton, vice president of the Western Division. "He has touched countless customers, and for his fellow associates, he continues to set the ultimate example of what genuine, superior customer service is all about."

The annual award is named for George Naimey, a retired associate who was known for his extraordinary commitment to Hannaford customers.
