Hannaford to build second Brunswick supermarket
The new Cooks Corner store will offer customers time-saving features, including a drive-through pharmacy and Hannaford To Go online ordering
Brunswick, Maine -- Hannaford Supermarkets today announced plans to build a store in the Cooks Corner section of Brunswick, deepening its ties with that community and offering customers a convenient new location.
The Cooks Corner Hannaford Supermarket & Pharmacy will be built in the Cooks Corner Shopping Mall at the intersection of Bath and Gurnet roads. Hannaford will continue to operate the Maine Street Hannaford Supermarket & Pharmacy at its existing location, and plans to make substantial investments and improvements in this thriving downtown store to make the shopping experience there even better for customers.
The new 50,000-square-foot store at Cooks Corner will provide the great fresh food and variety for which Hannaford is known, including thousands of natural and organic products, as well as unique store-brand offerings such as Taste of Inspirations, Hannaford and Nature’s Place.
The supermarket also will offer a full-service pharmacy, with drive-through; Hannaford To Go, a service that allows customers to select items online and pick up their orders at the store; and a huge selection of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat items.
“This new location will make it even easier for Brunswick-area customers to do their grocery shopping for the week or pick up that one item they need,” said Eric Blom, company spokesman. “We are proud to be investing further in our state, bringing new jobs to the area and strengthening our relationship with the community.”
The Cooks Corner Hannaford & Pharmacy will offer the everyday low prices that customers expect from their local Hannaford, with the added benefit of My Hannaford Rewards, a program that allows users to earn a 2 percent reward on all private brand purchases and receive personalized coupons.
“The new store will be an active member of the Brunswick community, contributing to local nonprofit organizations, civic groups and hunger-relief efforts,” Blom said. Last year, Hannaford donated more than 23 million pounds of rescued food to help feed hungry individuals in the cities and towns it serves.
As part of the project, which is being completed in partnership with Katz Properties LLC, a Staples store will relocate within the Mall. Pending permit approval, Hannaford expects to begin construction this summer.
The store is expected to employ about 150 full- and part-time associates when it opens. It will be Hannaford’s 64th supermarket in Maine. The company was founded in Portland in 1883 and is headquartered in Scarborough, Maine.
