MAINE FARMLAND TRUST RECIPEINT OF HANNAFORD $25,000 DONATION

Trust will use donation to help protect more Maine farmland and support farmers growing their businesses

 

Scarborough, ME—Hannaford announced a $25,000 donation to Maine Farmland Trust as part of its commitment to sustainability and community.

 

The donation was a part of an in-store promotion for Earth Month where Hannaford donated $2 to the American Farmland Trust and Maine Farmland Trust whenever customers purchased four or more participating Earth Month products.

 

“We’re in the food business and so there’s a natural connection to protecting Maine’s farmland. Doing so is the only way we ensure that we’ll have the land we need to grow food in the future,” said Ericka Dodge, External Communications Manager for Hannaford. “Supporting Maine Farmland Trust and local farmers helps nourish communities—and that is important to all of us.”

 

Hannaford works with nearly 60 produce farms and more than 200 food producers in Maine. Hannaford works with more than 850 growers and producers and sells more than 7,000 locally-produced items across its five-state service region.

 

“We are so grateful to Hannaford for seeing and supporting our work to protect farmland and support Maine farmers,” said Ellen Sabina, Outreach Director for Maine Farmland Trust. “To date Maine Farmland Trust has helped to keep over 60,000 acres of farmland in farming, and that simply wouldn’t be possible without business supporters like Hannaford who care about the future of agriculture here in Maine.”

 

Since its founding in 1999, Maine Farmland Trust has permanently protected nearly 300 farms and has helped to keep over 60,000 acres of farmland in farming by supporting over 900 farm families with critical services.
