New Hannaford supermarket and pharmacy in Rome to open on June 20
Hannaford to mark opening with $10,000 donation to Connected Community Schools Market Place
Rome, NY – Hannaford Supermarkets will open its new Rome store, located at 808 West Chestnut Street, on Saturday, June 20. The store will employ approximately 170 full- and part-time associates.
The new 49,480 square-foot store will include a variety of features designed to create a convenient shopping experience, including Hannaford-To-Go, a service which allows customers to order their groceries online and pick up at the store. Additionally, the store will feature a pharmacy with a drive-thru and private consultation area.
To commemorate the opening, Hannaford will donate $10,000 to the Connected Community Schools Market Place within the Rome City School District, which offers programs to connect local students and families with resources to meet their educational, social, emotional and physical needs, including: a school food pantry; an emergency closet with clothing, household and hygiene products; and healthy cooking classes.
“We look forward to welcoming shoppers to our new Rome store as we continue to serve the community’s need for food and medicine,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Rome Store Manager Kevin King. “As a strong community partner, we are pleased to mark the opening of our doors with a donation to Connected Community Schools, an organization which is doing tremendous work with local children and families during this difficult time.”
The donation from Hannaford will be used to meet the Connected Community Schools Market Place’s continued response to increased need resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) global health pandemic.
“It is only with the support of the community that we are able to continue to do what we do. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the needs of our students and families have grown exponentially,” said Connected Community Schools Executive Director Melissa Roys. “This amazingly generous donation from Hannaford will allow us to continue to feed our area families. We are pleased to welcome Hannaford to Rome and to our Connected Community.”
The donation to the Connected Community Schools Market Place is one of three that Hannaford will make to non-profit organizations in the Rome community in the coming months.
Hannaford will operate 51 supermarkets in New York with the opening of its Rome location. Every Hannaford store donates rescued food to local hunger relief, and regularly supports local charities and schools.
