Seacoast hunger relief to benefit from big lottery win
Hampton, N.H. – Hannaford Supermarkets today announced that it will donate its $10,000 commission on the sale of a $1 million New Hampshire Lottery ticket and make a further $5,000 donation toward hunger relief in Hampton.
The Hampton Hannaford sold a lottery ticket recently that generated a $1 million winner, who has claimed the prize anonymously. The store is donating $5,000 each to the Hampton Salvation Army, Hobbs House Help Center and St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry
.
"Hannaford is thrilled to share the proceeds from this big lottery win with local organizations that fight hunger," said Hannaford Hampton Store Manager Ashley Campo. "Our associates work closely with each of these three groups on a regular basis and can see firsthand what a difference they make in the community."
Thursday's gift marks the second time in a year that the sale of a winning lottery ticket triggered a Hannaford donation to hunger relief and other community groups in New Hampshire. Last summer, the Raymond Hannaford donated its $75,000 commission and an additional $25,000 to local organizations after a customer there hit a $487 million Powerball jackpot.
“It is extremely heartening, once again, to see one of our retailers using its well-earned commission prize to do good here in New Hampshire by donating this prize money to organizations serving those most in need,” said Debra Douglas, chairman of the New Hampshire Lottery Commission. “The New Hampshire Lottery commends Hannaford Supermarkets for its continued dedication to fighting hunger in New Hampshire, and we are proud to support its efforts.”
Today's donation is part of the Hannaford Helps charitable commitment focused on helping ensure local people have access to the nutritious food they need, as well as the areas of health, wellness, education and child development. Last year, Hannaford donated 3.8 million pounds of meat, fruit, vegetables, bakery items and packaged foods to hunger relief in New Hampshire.
