Hannaford Supermarkets contributes 1,200 whole turkeys to New Hampshire Food Bank
Manchester, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Hannaford Supermarkets today delivered 1,200 turkeys to the New Hampshire Food Bank to help fight hunger across the state. The product weighs about 14,000 pounds in all and is valued at more than $22,000.
The gift of badly needed protein will help the one in nine New Hampshire residents who are at risk of going hungry. The donation will allow the New Hampshire Food Bank provide more than 11,600 meals through its partner agencies.
The company’s donation comes at a time when the need among New Hampshire residents is high and holiday-related giving has fallen off.
“With the cold weather this winter, too many of our neighbors are having to choose between heating their homes and eating,” said Eric Blom, Hannaford spokesman. “Today’s donation is part of Hannaford’s commitment to fighting hunger in New Hampshire, not just during the holidays but throughout the year.”
This donation represents an additional gift by Hannaford, which partnered with its customers last year to provide $275,000 in product and cash to food-relief agencies in New Hampshire through the Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger program. Each Hannaford store also makes regular product donations to fight hunger locally, in communities across New Hampshire.
Hannaford has 33 supermarkets in New Hampshire and recently announced plans to open a store in Exeter this spring.
