Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
We're committed to reflecting the communities we serve and ensuring that all associates can bring their whole selves to work, every day. The lived experiences and unique characteristics of each associate contribute to a robust culture where diversity is celebrated, inclusion is nurtured and a sense of belonging helps everyone thrive and have meaningful experiences.
We support this culture through ongoing awareness and both leader and associate-led efforts, such as our Business Resource Groups (BRG), as well as countless collaborations and partnerships with national and local community organizations.
Our Programs Reflect Our Values
Throughout the year, we recognize our associate-led Business Resource Groups that support diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Our programs focus on awareness, education and professional growth, including: Ethnicity and Race (Mosaic); LGBTQA+; Women; Veterans, Military and Service Members; and Generations.
Additionally, Hannaford's Certified Diverse Supplier Program actively works with businesses owned by women, veterans, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and other groups to ensure robust representation in our stores and among our services.
Veterans Day
We proudly salute the bravery and sacrifice of our veterans and active military personnel. Their dedication and protection inspire us every day, and we're committed to honoring their service in our community.
On Veterans Day, we celebrated these heroes with an exclusive offer as a token of our appreciation. We're proud to be named a Patriot Employer by Disabled American Veterans and are lifted up by strong community partnerships with organizations like the Travis Mills Foundation. And we create a welcoming place to work and shop, with safe and supportive environments where all associates can thrive.
Hispanic Heritage Month
Hannaford's DEI aspiration is to be the most welcoming place to work and shop. This commitment to our associates and customers comes alive every day, but it has particular significance during celebrations like National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 – October 15.
From the brands we carry, to the associate stories we tell, to the ways we promote communication and break language barriers, Hannaford is proud to acknowledge this important time of the year. Not surprisingly, the magic of NHHM really comes alive through the remarkable contributions of our many associates.
Pride Month
Pride Month is an important time of celebration and reflection for the LGBTQ+ community, and we're proud to support our associates and community members at events across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York.
As important, when the parades and festivals come to an end, our support and our commitments continue on. From LGBTQ+ supportive benefits, to the name tags we wear, to creating safe and welcoming environments, our commitment is a priority every day.
Women's History Month
On International Women's Day – and every day – Hannaford celebrates the strength, resilience and brilliance of women in our stores, our communities and around the world.
As we honor the achievements and progress made by women in grocery and in every profession, let's continue to uplift, empower and advocate for gender equality. Let's amplify the voices of women, break barriers and create a future where opportunities are limitless for all. Together, let's drive change, innovate and #inspireinclusion.
Black History Month
For Black History Month, we celebrated the rich mosaic of contributions that are woven into the vibrant fabric of our nation's history. In particular, we focused on heroes: the people who have helped us physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually and some of our associates reflected on their personal heroes.
Disabled American Veterans Award
Hannaford is proud to be designated a DAV Patriot Employer by Disabled American Veterans. The nationwide program recognizes businesses whose job opportunities for disabled veterans, hiring practices and community outreach demonstrate an unwavering commitment to veterans obtaining suitable employment to care for themselves and their families. This designation exemplifies Hannaford's commitment to being the most welcoming place to work and shop.
Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion
We're proud to have earned a perfect score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index for the past 12 years. This index is the nation's leading benchmarking tool for evaluating a company's LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion policies, serving employees, consumers and investors. It measures companies on criteria including HR policies, engagement, activities and community support.
