Hannaford donates more than $22,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs for child nutrition efforts
Worcester, MA – Hannaford Supermarkets today announced $7,500 donations to Boys & Girls Clubs in Massachusetts to assist the non-profit organizations’ efforts to bridge the gaps in access to nutritious food for young children.
“Many families with children are stressed in meeting basic needs, including the essential need for nutritious food,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Brian Fabre. “Hannaford is pleased to support the Boys & Girls Clubs as we work together to build on its work and instill lifelong healthy habits in area children.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Worcester will utilize the funding to support the continued operation of the Kids Café meal program, which provides a free, nutritious dinner to approximately 300 children each weeknight during the school year, as well as lunch and snacks for approximately 800 kids per week in the summer. The grant will also be used to fund nutrition and cooking classes for Club members.
“Hannaford is making an investment in Worcester’s children. This generous grant will fund nutrition education programs at the Club. It will provide free meals to kids who would otherwise go hungry and feed families in need,” said Boys & Girls Club of Worcester Executive Director Liz Hamilton. “Here at the Club, we ensure that kids don’t get left behind. Our achievements would be impossible without the support of companies like Hannaford.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest will use the funding to support the continued operation of the Healthy Habits program, which teaches children how proper nutrition, exercise and positive relationships contribute to a healthy lifestyle. The program is designed to equip youth with the skills required to adopt healthy habits through fun and engaging learning activities.

The donations are part of a $500,000 commitment by Hannaford to child nutrition throughout New England and New York. Half of those dollars are being raised through the all-new Hannaford Chef’s Table program, with a financial match of $250,000 from Hannaford.
The Chef's Table is a partnership between Hannaford and four local chefs who maintain the same passion for building community and helping home cooks make fresh, affordable meals. The program features affordable recipes using quality and fresh ingredients created by the participating chefs in local Hannaford stores. Shoppers who purchase participating recipe products will contribute toward a donation from Hannaford to child nutrition effort, with a guaranteed commitment of $250,000 from Hannaford.
The Hannaford Chef’s Table includes Kerry Altiero, owner of Café Miranda in Rockland, ME; Kathy Gunst, food journalist and cookbook author based in NH; Ric Orlando, owner of New World Bistro Bar in Albany, NY; and David Turin, owner of David’s and David’s Opus 10 in Portland, ME, as well as David’s 388 in South Portland, ME.
Hannaford maintains a steadfast commitment to hunger relief. In 2017, Hannaford donated the equivalent of 20 million meals directly from stores to local food pantries and soup kitchens.
