Program benefits more than 2,900 Northeast schools
Scarborough, Maine – Hannaford Supermarkets today mailed checks for more than $500,000 to k-12 schools in New England and New York through the Hannaford Helps Schools program. Customers triggered the donations by purchasing eligible products.

Schools use the donations for whatever items students need locally, whether that is new computers, musical instruments, sports gear, field trips or playground equipment.

In its 14th year, Hannaford Helps Schools raised $308,075 for 2,908 schools. Schools in each community that raised the most money also received an additional $1,000, bringing the total raised during the 2013 campaign to $507,073.

Under the program, customers received three “school dollars” – equivalent to cash – for every four participating products purchased. This year’s program involves more than 30 brand partners and 720 products, including products from Procter & Gamble, Tropicana, Unilever, General Mills, McCain, The Switch, Fresh Express, Wyman’s and many others.

Since its inception, Hannaford Helps Schools has raised more than $8.5 million for schools in New England and New York.
