SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Hannaford Supermarkets today announced $175,000 in donations to warming centers and shelters in New England and New York to provide direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness.

The funding will empower four organizations across Maine, New York and Vermont to expand programs, sustain operations and provide essential resources and food to individuals and families in need.

“Hannaford is pleased to contribute $175,000 to provide direct support to organizations working to address the root causes of homelessness in our communities,” said Sherri Stevens, Community Relations Manager for Hannaford Supermarkets. “We recognize the profound challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness, particularly during the harsh winter months, and we hope this contribution ensures individuals and families have a safe haven during difficult times.”

The funding from Hannaford will support the following organizations:

- The City of Burlington, Vermont received $90,000 to support its new warming shelter. This funding will specifically support access to food, shelter staffing, supplies for community outreach and medical care.

- Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, which addresses homelessness in the Capital Region of New York, received $50,000. The donation will support the Community Connections daytime warming shelter in Albany, as well as Code Blue shelters in Gloversville and Albany. Facing increased demand, particularly in severe weather, Community Connections serves approximately 1,600 people annually.

- Hudson River Housing, a nonprofit in Poughkeepsie, New York focused on providing emergency and affordable housing solutions, supportive services and community development initiatives, received $20,000. The Hannaford funding will support operational expenses of Hudson River Housing’s Gannett House, a facility providing emergency housing for families in need.

- The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter in Bangor, Maine, which houses 38 beds and six long-term rental apartments, received $15,000. The facility provides day services, including a safe space, hot lunch, and bagged lunches for community members. The shelter doubles as an overnight winter warming center, ensuring a secure environment and meals for unhoused individuals. Hannaford's donation will support operational costs, including utilities and staffing.
